Crane Operations On or Near the Airport
If you will be operating a crane in the vicinity of the airport, an FAA airspace permit may be required. The permit must be filed at least 45 days prior to the start of the crane operation. The FAA will issue a permit based on the height and location of the crane. The permit may include restrictions on when and how high the crane can be operated. To determine if a permit is required, use the FAA’s Notice Criteria Tool found here. If a permit is required, an FAA form 7460 must be completed. The form can be completed online here. If the crane will be located on airport property, a permit is mandatory.
Please notify Airport Operations at 757-234-0568 anytime a crane operation is proposed or if you have any questions.
